Here are some of the clubs we run.
Mystery quilt club:
Mystery quilts are a fun way to make quilt tops. Each time you come, you get a new clue. After 4-6 clues, you have a quilt top. Each group decides how often you want to meet (once a month or twice a month) Come join a group. Membership is $30 a year.
Show and Tell:
Show us your projects - we always love to see them. If you’ve made a project at our class or with our material or yarn, and you happen to be very proud of it, bring in a photo and we’ll put it on RUTI’s web page for all the world to see!
Knitting Club:
RUTI's Knitting Club has started up again. Come to RUTI's on the 2nd and 4th Friday of every month, from 10:30-12 - to knit, socialize, and get help. Membership is $30 a year.
Here is where we display the creativity and enthusiasm of our customers.
Quilt Challenge Winners
In honour of Streetsville's 150th anniversary, we held a Quilt Challenge - quilters had to make a small quilt using two different (required) fabrics, plus any others, and reflecting the theme "History Lives!". We had marvellous entries, and here are some. Lynne McCulloch won the Grand Prize but all contestants received some hand-marbled fat quarters.
Ronit Minchom writes, "I was inspired to use the animal print from the Challenge fabric. My husband Colin provided the idea of evolution and the picture was adapted from one found on the internet. I am intrigued by the idea that we are evolving but in some ways things do not change, which to me defines 'History Lives'".
Lynne McCulloch writes "I researched historic buildings in Streetsville, photographed them, altered some pictures and printed them on the computer. Hats from different times were researched as well as costumes to match. I used raw edge appliqué, machine quilting and fabric pastels. Finally some areas were dyed and embellishments were added."
Irene Brayne's quilt is like a newspaper - "black and white and red all over". She added clippings about Streetsville, including the opening of RUTI's Needlebed!
Cathy Willoughby writes, "I thought of the strippy quilt which was popular during the first half of the 19th. century. By the time Streetsville was settled, it had almost disappeared. In 21st. century fabrics and colours, it comes back to life." The quilt below was sewn and quilted by Cathy.
This beautiful purse from Francesca Gougeon won first prize in our knitted purse challenge.
