The Early Music Fair

Each September, TEMC hosts an Early Music Fair, providing
early music aficionados and the general public a survey of the early music scene in Toronto. There are scheduled mini-showcase concerts, as well as displays for concert presenters, instrument makers and music retailers, plus numerous informal presentations by some of the area's historical performance enthusiasts.

The Fair offers opportunities to see and hear recorders and viols, early keyboard instruments, historical woodwinds, and other period instruments played by some of the finest musicians in the city. SRI Canada Ltd., (Canada's largest independent classical distributor) donates hundreds of CD recordings which are sold at this annual fundraising sale. Also, early music books and publications from Early Music Imports are for sale.

TEMC's 25th annual Early Music Fair will take place at Montgomery’s Inn, 4709 Dundas Street West (at Islington Avenue), on Saturday, September 12, 2009 from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. Admission is only $6 adults, $3 students/seniors, $2 children (under 12), (free to members of the Toronto Early Music Centre, Heritage Toronto, and Friends of Etobicoke’s Heritage), so bring your friends and take in some mini-concerts, exhibits, and information about the art of historical music performance.

Restored to its heyday of 1847, Montgomery’s Inn remains a meeting place where visitors share stories of immigration, travel, neighbourhoods and culture. Convenient to local walking trails, the inn tells the story of the people of Etobicoke – from the Irish immigrants such as the Montgomery family who owned the inn, to recent immigrants such as the Somali of Dixon. Enjoy our hospitality with a cup of tea and treat in the historic tearoom!
