About TEMC

TEMC was founded in 1984 , initially to help coordinate the
activities of those involved in early music in Toronto. A core
component of TEMC's efforts has been presenting “historically
informed” concerts. As well as showcasing the incredible talent
of many local performers, TEMC has also presented numerous international early music luminaries, such as Marion Verbruggen, Barthold Kuijken, the Gothic Voices, the Taverner Consort, the Tallis Scholars, Emma Kirkby and Anthony Rooley, Fretwork, Hopkinson Smith, Tragicomedia, Anner Bylsma, Apollo's Fire, Ensemble Anonymous of Quebec, Norma Gentile, Alison Crum, James Bowman, Nancy Argenta, Daniel Taylor, the Huelgas Ensemble, Matthew White and the Yukimi Kambe Viol Consort.

In the last 15 years, TEMC has focused on educational and audience development activities. These centre on the Musically Speaking series at the Church of the Holy Trinity, an annual Early Music Fair at Montgomery's Inn, as well as performers' workshops and reading circles, the production of a quarterly newsletter, an email announcement service, lectures, and sales of recordings and facsimile editions.

TEMC is supported by fees and donations from its members, as well as by grants from local funding organizations. TEMC gratefully acknowledges the support of the City of Toronto through the Toronto Arts Council, the Church of the Holy Trinity and Montgomery's Inn.

Why an early music service organization in Toronto?

TEMC encourages awareness and interest in historical performance and the history of music, and helps to develop an audience and appreciation for early music and its performers in Toronto. Other services presently offered include events planning and publicity mailings.
