Notes on the Season

CrossCurrents: A Play Festival of Cultural Ideas
From the flyer: "CrossCurrents is Factory Theatre's new play festival devoted to showcasing and developing work by writers of colour whose themes involve the intersection of different cultures."

The festival, coordinated by Michael Miller, ran from April 4 to 13. It included four public readings and a public roundtable ("New Writers, New Audiences") to "focus on new plays by writers of colour that have been produced (or will soon be produced) in Toronto." The panelists were Jani Lauzon of the Centre for Indigenous Theatre; Martin Bragg, artistic producer of Canadian Stage; Layne Coleman, artistic director of Theatre Passe Muraille; Michael Miller, general manager of Obsidian Theatre; and Ken Gass, artistic director of Factory Theatre. The moderator was Brian Quirt, director of Nightswimming and dramaturge at Factory Theatre.
